Periodontal Disease
A healthy mouth is vital to building and maintaining self-confidence. When disease causes the mouth to become unhealthy, for whatever reason, it can be a distressing experience.
As well as helping to solve problems associated with sore gums and loose teeth, periodontal treatment can restore your whole mouth to full health.

Gum disease (gingivitis) is caused by bacteria in the mouth which stick to the surface of the teeth and form plaque. The plaque releases substances that can cause inflammation of the gums, resulting in a change of colour and texture. One symptom of gingivitis is gums which bleed when brushing.

If left untreated, the gums and bone which anchor the teeth may start to erode, this is known as periodontal disease. In more severe cases periodontitis can result in severe gum pockets and bone recession, causing teeth to become loose and even fall out.

Although there is no cure for periodontal disease, it can be controlled as long as you maintain a thorough and regular oral care routine which removes plaque every day. This should be supplemented by regular visits to the hygienist and dentist.
